Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Savannah Inouye & Caitlin Walker

Hear from our latest RYLA young leaders,  Savannah Inouye and Caitlin Walker , who were sponsored by Rotary of Perth to attend the 2017 Rotary Youth Leadership Award Camp. It was an incredible opportunity and experience which Caitlin & Savannah would like to share in this presentation.

My name is Savannah Inouye and I am 19 years old. I was born in America and moved to Australia when I was two years old. Growing up on a ten-acre block in the Perth hills, I spent most of my time enjoying the outdoors; climbing trees, horse riding and generally running wild with my four siblings.

I joined Scouting when I was 7 years old and continued through the sections till I achieved the Queens Scout Award when I was 18. I also really enjoy sports and music, specifically gymnastics and violin both of which I started learning at a young age.

I have just started my first year of studying nursing at Edith Cowan University. During high school, one of the most memorable experiences I had was with Rotary. I participated in the House That Jack Built program where I spent 5 days in Cambodia learning about the culture and building houses for underprivileged people.Rotary is a great organisation and it offers so many opportunities for youth to be involved in their community.

My name is Caitlin Walker and I am 18 years old. I moved from Queensland in 2015 to Perth, where I graduated grade 12 from Eastern Hills Senior High School last year. This year I am doing an internship with Scripture Union WA. I am also involved in two netball teams, babysit and
house-sit regularly and hold leadership positions in the children and youth ministry at Parkerville Baptist Church.

Engaging Youth in Global Issues

Nicholas Camer-Pesci & Anish Badgeri

UN Youth Australia is an entirely youth-run not for profit organisation seeking to empower Australians, regardless of their age, through a diverse range of educational experiences. In partnership with the Australian Federal Government, the United Nations Association of Australia, the Australian Youth Affairs Council and other youth-led organisations, UN Youth Australia promotes grass roots engagement with the aims and principles of the United Nations. What sets U.N. youth apart from many other organisations with similar values is its strong belief in and focus on peer- to-peer learning. As an organisation run entirely by people aged between 15 and 24, UN Youth is dedicated to providing an avenue for the expression of youth opinion and empowering young people to engage with global issues. Through the programs it runs UN youth reaches over 3500 students each year across Australia, making it one of the largest youth run not for profits in the country.

Rotary of Perth 90th Birthday & ANZAC Memorial

Whilst the Club's 90th Birthday will be celebrated more fully at the annual changeover in June, we will take the opportunity to review some of the Club's many major achievements over the last nine decades.

We will also commemorate ANZAC Day and recognise the importance of the day to all sides - Lest we forget.

   Friday 7th April

Paul Chamberlain, Chairman - FORM

From Huddersfield to Perth a journey of Wealth, Charity & all things Philanthropic

Does the notion of philanthropy feature poorly or strongly  in WA? Can a family balance wealth with sound family values?
Can wealth be a springboard for launching projects which benefit a community, a country and perhaps create a better world?.
(1.2 Million Rotarians the world over are very familiar with some of these issues.)

Our speaker today will address some of these aspects and take us on an interesting and content rich journey of history, videos and facts of his Perth family’s quest.
